Bachelor Thesis With Dr. Kahlhoefer in 2020

Axion production in fixed-target experiments

The goal of this bachelor thesis:

  • Become familiar with the concept of axions and their interactions with matter
  • Calculate the production rate and distribution of axions in a fixed-target experiment
  • Use existing data to constrain the parameter space of axion models

The student will learn:

  • Why axions are interesting candidates for new physics
  • How to simulate the production, propagation and decay of long-lived particles
  • How to calculate exclusion limits from experimental data

  • General interest in theoretical and experimental particle physics
  • Some familiarity with python (or another programming language)
  • Relevant data analysis techniques can be learned during the project
