Note for non-RWTH Students
Note for non-RWTH students sending spontaneous applications for a bachelor/master/PhD thesis in my group: I receive many spontaneous applications by email, and I am always honoured to see that students are interested in working in my group. Unfortunately, I usually don’t have time to answer properly (as I would like to), and I wish to clarify here why spontaneous applications are unfortunately hopeless:
- For bachelor/masterabeit, the topics listed below are proposed within the framework of our Bachelor or Master of Physics at RWTH Aachen University. In principle I would be allowed to take additional students from other universities. However, I already receive many more offers from very good RWTH students than I can accommodate. Supervising students takes a lot of time, and I already do it for a dozen of RWTH students every year: this is the maximum I can do. Besides our office space is already saturated. Thus I cannot hire external people.
- For PhD thesis, funding is never easy to obtain. I normally have one opening every two years, subject to successful grant applications. When this is the case, I advertise the position on standard websites (HEP jobs, etc.) and on the page of our institute. Thus, it is unfortunately not useful to send spontaneous applications (unless you have a way to come with your own grant!)
